jeep liberty

I replaced the tranny solenoid in a 2006 jeep liberty and when i put the valve body back up in place and the bell crank shaft went into place nicely and I tried to put the bracket (shift linkage #10 below) on top of the bell crank while in park and it will not go on at all. I messed around and put the shifter in drive and it slipped over the top nicely but the shifter would not go into park or 1 or 2nd gear...ughh, its just too hard to do. If I unhook the linkage and put the shifter back in park and try to rehook up the linkage, it will not go on, almost but will not slip over the top...just too frustrating. iT

The removal instructions state to turn the manual shift shaft one position past L before removing, so it would make sense you need to rotate it back to the same position to reinstall the bracket. It sounds like you're trying to do so at the opposite end of its travel (at Park).
