Good to see that stuff... but wow those guys would turn a 15 minute recovery into an all day event...

Good deal glad you guys are digging it. Yeah the guys would turn a 15 minutes recovery into an all day thing, but you have to remember they are breaking down all the do's and don'ts and why's etc. So in reality the things they are doing would not take as long as they are demonstrating them. A couple of posts back someone posted another set of videos that were good too! I suggest all the new guys check those out as well. Very informative stuff!

Thanks for the posting!
While I do recovery work for a living, a little refresher never hurts.
I really liked the demo of self, backward winching, I always knew how, just never tried or saw it done. Who knows, might have to do it tomorrow?
Like stated, a bit simplified, but good info, even if a lot of his steps are done automatically with experience. One thing I have learned is many times you have to compensate and do a little "creative rigging" to get the job done. Think outside the box and use common sense.
Thanks again.

So please understand some people aren't quite as knowledgeable as you, remember once upon a time you didn't know either.
Well said!

Thanks for posting those because I learned a lot and now when I am able to get a winch I'll have a better idea of what I'm doing when I use it.

I found this helpful! As some folks said, it helped confirm some questions and dispel some myths.

Thread crawled and also linked to over at our local club's site. Thanks for sharing them!

Some good information. I didn't watch all of it but some of the stuff regarding safety. I'm going to have to inspect my cable when I get the TJ back. I'm liking the idea of synthetic cable more and more.

Awesome glad you linked it. Even though surely your club is aware of JF I'm sure lol. I'm really suprised by the reaction to this posting. I see my thread is a top voted thread this week! Very cool!

Yeah I've read through it myself. Found a little information here, a little bit more there. And some contradict others. So I figure the best thing to do is read as much as possible, including horror stories of what's happened and make a best case judgment per recovery on different methods.

As another winch-newbie, I'll throw my thanks in here too. I've only had to extract myself once, and it wasn't a complicated issue. I know as I push the envelope, though, there will be more times, and it will be nice to have a better idea what I'm doing!
