Rope on my Winch????

My cleanup continues on my XJ. It was time to check out the front winch so I totally unwound it and found out it is loaded with a heavy nylon rope. The hook end looks very professional with a 6 foot black guard over the rope. Is this something that is normal? Even though the rope is heavy gauge, I canít imagine it is strong enough to pull my Jeep out of a hole.

Some people just call me Doug.

Sounds like synthetic Dyneema rope. It's plenty strong and it's lightweight.

Yes, it's normal for some winches to have synthetic rope. I upgraded my winch to synthetic rope a few years ago and it's done plenty of work pulling my jeep out of situations.

Synthetic rope is the only way to go. Steel cable used to be the winch medium of choice for many many years, but nowadays rope is where it’s at. It is lighter, safer, easier to handle and work with, etc.
