Good question. And that will be a nice tire size for your little trailer.

This post and the one that follows (link below) it will guide you to figure out how wide an axle you need.

One you get the measurement off the tire and rim you plan on using, you can figure out your axle width.

Question back to you: These rims you're getting... are they steel rims or alloy rims? Sometimes with the alloy rims, the center hole isn't large enough for the axle hub to pass through. Usually steel rims are ok (hole is larger). Either way, measure the rim's center hole, and compare it to the diameter of the trailer axle hub.

And before you put the flooring down, it would be a good time to swap out the overly-stiff factory slipper springs for some more flexible longer springs with a shackle at the end. It isn't expensive, and you'll be glad you did. It can also give you a little added height.

Thanks for the insights, I’ll do some measuring over the weekend. Luckily they are steel, off of a late 90’s Cherokee
Floor is in, onto the sides
Front and a side done. Really liking the look of the T&G.
The axle came in a couple days early!

Hubface-to-hubface distance, weight rating, where you got it, etc.
Looks like a square-tube axle. Did you have to drill holes in the axle for the spring's center pin?

Sure thing! Sourced the axle from Eastern Marine as a complete set up.
56.5” hub to hub at 1800lb capacity. Went a little wider in case I choose a different wheel and tire set up, about 2” between the tire and frame.
Hardest part was drilling the hole in the axle to match the spring perch!
Tightened it all up and ready to roll!
Next up is the tailgate and deciding on a top or not....

Knocked out the latches for the tailgate and the top as well. She’s ready to roll, heading to the title agency tomorrow. It’s plate time...

My trailer has gotten heavier over the years - I either keep bolting things to it, or adding stuff inside the tub. Years ago I replaced the factory overly-stiff slipper springs with longer springs with an eye at each end (so a shackle at the back end). I used these 2-leaf springs (rated at 575lbs each):

I've been very happy with them, and with the added shock absorbers (all written up previously) it had plenty of flex. And good flex helps keep your trailer's contents from getting beat-up, and keeps stuff from breaking on your trailer.

However, come August (16 Aug - 2 Sep) a group of us are going to go on an 18 day/5000 mile trip from Bellingham WA up to Tukyokatuk (northern Canada) running the Dempster Highway up and back (and do a little kayaking in the Arctic Ocean), and then back to Bellingham (PM me if you're interested in joining us). My trailer will be fully loaded (to include fuel, water, food, and everything else). So I decided to try out these 3-leaf springs (rated at 850lbs each):

I swapped them out today; easy swap (lengths were the same from eye to eye - 26"). And I still have flex when I push down on the fender. I also gained a 1/2" in height measured from the center-line of the tire to the top of the fender (we'll see if it settles a bit over time). Hopefully they won't be too stiff.

If space permitted on my trailer frame, I'd have gone with these 28" springs (rated at 740lbs each):

Speaking of swapping out springs, here's a link from a previous post that lists the parts needed to do the suspension swap (with pictures!). It is a bolt-on affair with just a little bit of drilling involved. And it isn't that expensive. It really made a difference with my little trailer both on and off-road.

And there is a table of contents on the first page/first post that might help people find other things that have been done over the years (my this thread had gotten long!). Sometimes I'll tell a PAGE number (in which case you'll have to go to that page and scroll down to the applicable post - there are 15 posts per page - this is page 223, post #3344), and sometimes it'll mention a POST (then again - 15 posts-per-page; you'll just have to advance pages till you find it).
