Jerry can/gas can holder recommendations?
Getting ready for a long overland trip, anyone have any recommendations for a jerry can holder mount setup for a wrangler that is safe and decently priced?
I have the stock door and tire carrier at the moment.

I use a jerry can holder and a mount which attaches the holder to the spare tire carrier/swingout. www.4wheelparts.com has them.

VEry cool! thanks for those links - i dont think Ill have time to buy and mount or fab and mount a bumper before my trip so I just have the stock door/tire mount.
One question tho - with that second mount - it looks good, but what if someone rear-ends me hard directly into the gas can or the jeep falls backwards and lands on the gas can?

My spare is up high enough that i don't think it will be an issue if rear-ended and I never considered the what if(s) the jeep tips on its tailgate.....

I didn't get a mount yet, but I ordered two NATO jerry cans that a lot of people said had no leakage or fumes problems - so now with so little time left before a trip - do I find the time to build a custom mount or use an universal mount.
Would hate to drop a fuel can on the highway

The NATO cans are good ones, shouldnt leak on you. When you look at mounts check and see if they will work with a NATO/Wedco style can. Most will, some are for Scepter only.. some are for NATO only.
Take a look at the mounts available from Expedition Exchange, this style has the can lay on it's side to keep it's profile lower. Might give you additional mounting ideas. Have a winch? Might be a good place to mount the can temporarily.
You mention a long Overland trip... where are you headed?

WOW?!?!?! I did once but the wife got freeked out, yelled at me, beat me senseless, and made me promise never to do it again. And I haven't!

I got two NATO jerry cans, based on your recommendations and further reading. After playing with them, these things have a great gasket and dont leak even when on the side or upside down.
I am planning - even though there is tons to do - to drive from NY to New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and visit a bunch of natural wonders , camp and then drive back to NY, mostly top off completely with just me, my knife and my sleeping bag and tons of water, just in time before the cold snap here and time to get back to work for the fall workload.

They are hefty and solid!! I still haven't found a good mounting solution for two with a stock bumper, the best solutions are definitely with after marketed swing away tire carrier bumpers.

I know this post is old, but where did you get those spouts for your NATO cans?

And what did you end up doing for a mount for the cans?
