Cherokee Roof Rust

My Cherokee has started to rust up on top and I would like to fix it before it gets worse.. Is this something that is approachable by someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with body work? If I do it myself is it likely to look awful? If y'all think that this is something that should be done by a shop, what is a fair price to have it sanded and repainted? Thank you for your help/advice. I would love to learn how to do this work myself but I'm unsure of the level of difficulty I'll encounter (i.e. I don't want to mess it up and set myself up for more issues down the road).

I am going to go buy an old car hood from the scrap to practice on. Perhaps that will give me a good indication of how well it will work out.

The first picture is of the rust coming through the paintwork, if you look closely, its rusted right through the steel. You'll have to cut out and patch that part of the rook. If you can find a replacement panel at a junk yard to cut up, that'll be easiest for you, but when you tie it into the rest of the roof you'll have to run body filler out to just about the other side of the roof for a seamless repair. I'll say that it will be noticeable even if you do a good job with the body filler, it's such a large flat area, you'll always see it.

I think that you need to ask yourself what your intentions for the jeep are, I mean do you want to return this to factory showroom condition? Or just drive it for another 5 years or so?
