Willy's Pickup

I wasn't sure where to put this since there's no Willys section. Why is that?
Anyway, We got this truck a few years ago but didn't have a place to store it and or work on it. Then we finally got a house with a garage. It took over a year to bring it home but it's here now and has been taking up some of my time lately. Here's the stats when we brought it home.

Early 50's Willy's pick up.
GM inline 6 235 ci motor -FOR SALE
3 spd tranny (not sure which on) FOR FREE
Dana 18 tcase
Dana 25/27 front axle- UP FOR GRABS
Timken rear - UP FOR GRABS

Here's some pics

Extra hood & fenders, the rear bumper and a ton of rust

The rear axle

Picked up the extra cab for $60 of Craigslist

Then I started to disassemble the truck, front axle gone

hood & fenders gone

Built some Jack stand dollies to help move it around the garage

Rear axle, suspension & bed are all gone.

Next I remove the motor, tranny & t case, then the cab. Then prep the frame for mods and boxing

The idea right now(you know how plans can change) is mild.

4.8 or 5.3 Vortec motor
auto tranny 700R4 most likely
Dana 300
Dana 44 3/4t Chevy full width
9" rear full width
33" tires
Leaf sprung F&R
Custom bed, not sure if I build a replica of stock or something else
Baja style bench seat custom width

id do an original bed. I love the way these old trucks look. maybe you could just inlay some wood in the bed(always adds a sharp look to it IMO)

Why get rid of the rear there really strong and would give it a classic look?

So I took all the parts I didn't want to the recycler today. I posted up on my local craigslist if anyone wanted it even for a 12 pack and got no takers, so off it went. I got $67.50 for scrap steel. The hood is the only part someone wanted so at least that was saved. Anyway, I'm looking to pull the motor this week. Then I"ll strip the cab and prep the frame for boxing & lengthening of the front.
