My solution for the Tcase is nothing revolutionary. Its the same thing everyone else has been doing with there rigs the last couple years on here.
I understand needing to go wheeling for your sanity. this year has been crazy and with the travel restrictions for DoD personnel it has been very tough to find an outlet like wheeling close by. Im glad you were able to get out and have some fun. and just look the breakage just give you a chance to upgrade!

Got my removable portion of the crossmember finished up the other day. I made square tabs out of 1/4" plate on on the 2x3 with (4) 1/2" bolts on each side and the 1.75" brace got some 1/4" tabs with (2) 1/2" Grade 8 bolts. I hope this is strong enough to withstand the forces put on this crossmember.

My new weld in bungs should be here today so I should be able to make me new rear control arms this weekend and get everything buttoned back up with the stock 2.72:1 Tcase.

Mine are all bent. Been that way for years. If I ever see them get significantly worse I'll build new ones (or go aluminum). So far the only reason I've built new links was if a change required a different length than I already had.

Hell, Cole used an old set of my links for mockup, cut and spliced them to make work for his buggy he was building, forgot he didn't slug them by the time he was ready to weld them up, and ran them for like 2 years before it finally broke. Lol

Yesterday I went and picked up the first piece of the puzzle to fix my low gearing situation.

Its a 318 5.2L Magnum from a 1997 Dodge ram 1500 and is said to have 145,000 miles on it. I chose to go with a dodge motor for simplicity and cost right now. It should be a decently simple swap with just a little bit of wiring to do by merging the Jeep and dodge harness. The PCM will talk to all my factory gauges and most of the wiring is the same as well from what I've been reading. Still undecided on a transmission. I can run a 46re but will have to switch everything over to OBDII. I have the '97 harness and PCM to do that if I do that route. I can not run the earlier 46rh due to the length unless I cut out my 4 link crossmember and moved it back like 6-8", which I don't want to do. I'd like to find TF727 or maybe even a TF904. These are the older 3 speed transmissions. The reason for me to go with an older transmission like that is because I can stay OBDI(easier wiring) and get a RMVB for them where as the 46re I can't. Right now its all about what I can source.

Cool find on an engine swap! As far as transmission what is the gearing on this transmissions? I’m guessing they are autos? You want the highest gearing or a granny gear. So do those transmissions help with that?

Yes they are autos. The gearing on a 46re from 1 to 4 is 2.45:1, 1.45:1, 1:1 and .69:1 as an OD. The 727 is the same but with no OD.

A TF904 would be 2.70:1, 1.54:1 and 1:1 with no OD.

Started slowly disassembling the motor today. I don't plan on doing a full rebuild. I'm gonna open it up, make sure everything looks ok and do new gaskets and whatever accessories need to be replaced.

Looks good! As far as the trans going with an ODB1 trans seems like the best option in my opinion. For a trail right don’t really need OD so a solid 3 speed if you can find a good deal on one would probably be best. Hope you can find one.

I agree. Again right now its proving difficult to really find anything. I had to drive quite a distance just to snag the engine. Everyone around me wants stupid money for a used engine or a wrecked truck. People in my area are asking about $700-1000 for a stock high mileage 5.2/5.9. I picked mine up for $350. Same thing with the transmission, I can pick up a used one locally for about $800. That's not going to happen. I'm on the lookout for one ALOT cheaper than that.

If you are looking at $800 for a used trans, might as well just spend a few more dollars and get a new one. I was on the look out for a 727 when I had my 5.2. I didn't find one in time. You will be happy with the 5.2 in there. I do have an OBD1 PCM that I ran for about three days if you find that you need one.

Thanks. I'll keep you in mind if I end up needing a OBDI computer. The only 727s I can find so far are 2wd.
