Thanks for this thread. I just read it from beginning to end! One hole in your story was the mysterious super swampers that appeared on your jeep for like 2 pictures. Or did I miss something? lol

Thanks! Those belong to a friend and I just borrow them from time to time. I have plenty of tires at my disposal, all mounted and balanced and ready to run. 235's, 30's, 31's, 32's, 33's, which are my DD tires currently, and soon a set of 35's!

Here's another shot with those swampers. They are 32x10.5 super swampers radials. Sidewalks are pretty stuff and they are noisy, but they love to be aired down. I just don't like to go too far since they aren't too wide of a tire.

I'm sure a big part of it is the wheels you have them on. Your steering must suck with those on stock rims. Proper back spacing and bump stops will go a long way.

Worked on the silver Jeep a little fit after work. Started stripping the front end. Did bumper, plastics, fender flares today. Spent about as much time untangling the puppy as I did working on the Jeep.

Little Red XJ

Got some new tires this weekend! These will be for the Silver Jeep as they would never clear on the red one at the height it is. 35x12.5R17, they will be going on a set of JK Rubi take offs I've had for a while. The quality appears to be good, looking forward to trying them out.

Finally put new rear pads and rotors on the red Jeep. Started grinding at Rausch. I don't really drive it anymore so it's been low on the priority list. It was definitely time.

Just as I was putting the drivers side together I noticed my leaf spring is slightly bent. Not too bad yet, but that's fun I guess. They probably don't like getting inverted constantly.

I also noticed that the drivers side pads were worse than the passenger side, and sometimes that caliper hangs up. I should probably get a new caliper for the drivers side. It had a hard time compressing also so it's probably time. I'll see how it does for a couple weeks and then decide if I want to get a new caliper or not.

Pulled the front fenders off the silver Jeep. Started taking measurements. Modeling the "frame" in SolidWorks and then designing a new drop out cross member for the 3 link in the front. Trying to figure out exactly the order I will be doing things. Definitely going to strip it down and clean it out. I haven't decided if I will load the new drive train in and drive it to my buddy's house to do the work or if I will trailer it, do the work, and then drop the drive train in at the end. I guess time will tell.

In my experience it is so much easier to do suspension work with the drivetrain (engine in particular) out of the way. The front end has less weight on it making the whole vehicle easier to manage and there is less components to work around. Just my two pennies.

I think there's a good chance I'll leave the drivetrain out for most of the suspension work. I am planning to build a custom long arm crossmember to hold the transmission so those mounts have to be in the right place.

I did work on the Jeep a little today. Got the interior gutted the rest of the way. I'd like to put the dash back together since the hardware was sitting on the carpet. I don't plan to do much to the dash and don't want to lose the hardware. Glad to see the floor is 98% rust free. Just some surface rust I'll have to take care of.

Mounted up my 35's. Decided to do it by hand to save a little cash. Probably don't need to do that again. Took about 2 hours total. Suckers are heavy.

Those guard dogs ride and grip well! i have them in 31/1050/15 and the only downside is that they have a high pitch whine instead of a normal womp womp of a mud tire... great tire minus the odd hum lol. great build!

Glad to hear you have liked them. One of the guys in the club runs a set of tread wrights and has been really happy with them.

Thanks. It will be sad to see the red Jeep come apart though. Fortunately I have future plans for that shell as well.
