I also have a new locker and a master install kit on the way for the front axle as well. I figured since there was so much metal in the diff, I should just change all the bearings to be safe. I regear axles in the side so doing the work isnít a big deal, just time and $100 worth of bearings.

The locker exploding is actually what prompted the tire purchase. Iím gonna have it all apart anyway, and I already had the wheels...

Kinda crazy that each of these wheels cost more than I paid or the whole Jeep originally.

Picked up the tires yesterday. I have some work ahead of me getting them mounted. The outer bead is fighting me to get seated. Going to try something a little different today. I got them home pretty late last night and didnít want to fight with them.

Converted the front axle to 5x5 lug pattern. Since I already run WJ knuckles, it was pretty easy to just swap on the WJ unit bearings. No more spacer /adapters in the front. I also replaced my broken front locker while the axle was apart. I still need to convert the rear axle to 5x5. So currently the rear has spacers.

As you can see a little wider in the rear. Still narrower than most JKís though.

Stopped by a friends yesterday to check out his Comanche and realize that with my new tires I had a bit of a fender clearance issue. As the bump stop started to compress, the tire was getting into the fender a little bit.

And this was before the bump stop had too much load on it because the rear wasnít stuffed yet.

Resolved this issue today the way all XJ owners resolve fender clearance issues. With the angle grinder. This is the nee cut line. If I want any more up travel Iíll have to start modifying the inner fender.

Honestly, the tires look terrific. Once you out them in the proper shape, please share some photos!

OMG the Jeep looks gorgeous! On the other hand, that red color in the tires is definitely a nice touch.

Well I gave the Jeep a good workout on Saturday. It performed flawlessly. I was late getting there and forgot to refill my CO2 bottle on Friday so I just threw it in 4low and wheeled at street pressure. Surprisingly the tires hooked up way better than my old set, even at 26 lbs. I got hung up a few times but never had to pull cable. Overall a great day out in the woods. And the Jeep had no issues driving home at 75 mph afterwards.

Little Red XJ

Built a shelf in the back of the Jeep to hold the spare tire and create some more room for other things.

Here is the old setup. It worked well and was very secure, but didnít leave enough space in the trunk for everything else.

This is the new setup. It will need some refinement still, but itís a good start. Spare fits up top. Currently have jumper cables on one side, strap and air tank on the other side, and recovery bag underneath. Secured in with 6 bolts at the moment.

I can also fit my fire gear in the trunk now which means itís off the floor in the back seat. I regularly use the back seat for people or the dog, so anything that opens that area up is a win for me.
