A stock jk with a hardtop on drives like a car. I can't decide if I like it or not!

It has so much more power (compared to my worn 4.0).......with the same six speed, I got it up to 65, just shifting into 5th around 60 (shifting at 3g)..... which is where mine shifts into 6th. And it had more power to give.....

I'm a huge fan of our TJ / LJ AMC 242 I6 4.0L. I have around 200,000 miles on mine and it runs incredible, with only some minor modifications and frequent maintenance. It runs better then it did 100k miles ago when I bought it back in 2007, which is unlike most motors that are lucky to even make it to the 200k mark. I will stroke it to a 4.7L when the time comes for an engine rebuild, but unfortunately my engine is running so damn good I don't think that's gonna be happening any time soon

If you want to take the time to tune up your 4.0L let me know and I'll let you in on the mods and maintenance I did to mine.

Mine is at 196,xxx miles averaging 16 to 17 mgs I no longer have a build thread so I will list out the mods I did that helped my engine perform better here in your build...

For starters, always maintain your oils and filters more then regularly, especially when your mileage starts to get up there.

I replaced the following items that have all contributed to the engine running smooth and minor performance gains...

- Replaced my IAC and thoroughly cleaned out my intake, throttle body, and intake manifold.

- Replaced my standard spark plugs for E3 plugs.. look here for more info about E3 plugs. Don't forget to cover the inside of you plug boots and outside of the plug stems with dielectric grease.

- Replaced my fan clutch since it was seized up and not allowing the clutch to let the fan spin at a slower rpm. This quieted things down a lot and took a ton of extra unnecessary load off the motor. If you can run an electric fan then I would recommend that, or check to be sure your fan clutch is in good condition.

- Run a good air intake with a good filter to allow the engine to breath without sacrificing filteration or particles. I run a true flow enclosed intake and it keeps the manafold and throttle body nice and clean. Stock intake with a good paper filter works well too.. don't run knn.

- One of the biggest mods I did that helped the engine run better was the PSC hood louver. Not only does it prevent heat soak, but it also promotes air flow through the engine compartment and provides your intake with cooler air, vs 210 - 240 degree temps. Without a louver of some sort, the air in the engine compartment has no flow and bakes everything within, robbing performance.

- Replace up-stream O2 sensors, these have a huge effect on how rich or lean your engine runs. I replaced mine due to regular maintenance a while back and I've continued to see good mpg results and power.

Last but not least, be sure to regear based on your tire size. This is the number one performance gain you can do to allow the engine to run at proper rpms while not straining to push those bigger tires. This single task alone made my jeep so much quicker. I'm on 35s w/ 4.88 Yukon gears and a 5 speed trans.

There's more little things here and there that I've done but can't recall at the moment. What I've listed out are the biggest and the most noticable increases with power, performance, and MPGs.

Hope that helps, I'm sure you knew most of these already.

The second new case is in the mail.

This weekend: Pulling the problem one out, putting the other rear axle shaft in and starting on the maintenance listed above/below.
