'95 YJ Mild build...

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum but not Jeeps. I just acquired my sixth Jeep and finally am in a place in life where I can build it up the way I always pictured it in my head. It won't be extreme, just functional and able to be my DD as well.

The list of parts already ordered:

Front & Rear Bumpers w/ Swing Out
T&T Tube Fenders
TJ Rear Flares
New Rear Corners
Rocker Guards
Dash Speakers
Radiator & Hoses
Neoprene Seat Covers
1" Poly Body Lift (body mounts smoked, seems like a decent upgrade)
Complete Stainless Hardware Kit
New Console
TJ Third Brake Light
New SOLID Diff Covers
...

I already changed the plugs, wires, cap & rotor the day I picked it up. Also added a yellow top Optima that I had in another vehicle.

The Jeep is a 1995 and has 241,000 on the clock, but runs and shifts great! I bought the YJ without a test drive and drove it 150 miles the next day. I have been driving it all week to work and everything seems to be as expected. The body has rust in the usual spots and the frame is flaking, but does not appear to be cracked. I do notice a high pitched whine when holding RPM's between 2400 and 3100 in all gears, but have not diagnosed it yet. Doesn't seem to affect anything other than my ears..

The Jeep has the 2.5/AX5 combo and I will be sticking with that setup. It will be my third Wrangler with the 4cylinder and I love them!

Well, it's a start and I hope to install everything as it shows up, but it will be kind of slow going as I am moving into a new house and am tackling a kitchen remodel, 500 sq.ft of hardwood flooring and a master bath addition. Pics to follow as parts attach to the Jeep. Here is a couple of shots the way it is now:

small update

When I purchased this Jeep, I knew that there would be some things that needed fixing prior to my other upgrades. One of these items was the radiator. I knew it was pretty bad, but it wasn't until I removed it that i could tell just how bad. It is amazing that it was doing any cooling at all not to mention was leak free! The fins were so corroded that if you touched them with your finger, they turned to dust. It was kind of cool. I have attached pics of the 2 radiators (old&new) to show the dramatic difference. I did this install yesterday and will post a couple of pics of the new radiator in the jeep a bit later. I also changed the Serpentine belt. What a PIA! Not only did I break the head of of the adjustment bolt, the parts store gave me the wrong belt. Because I didn't check it before the start of the project, my 2 hour estimated install took 6. I guess I'll measure first next time.

My fenders and rear bumper showed up yesterday. I included a couple pics after unpacking. Now i have to finish up the tub patches in the rear and hopefully install this weekend. Pics of install as progress allows.

Progress

So I made time to get to work on the Jeep and began at 9 am yesterday morning. I planned on installing the tube fenders, changing the brake lines out with the new stainless hardlines. New shocks and to tackle the rear brake lines and shocks.

Well, at 1:30 last night I finished. Big thank you to my friend Ryan for coming over around 7 and helping out so late. I needed the extra motivation at that point. Here are some pics:

Removed the track bar and sway bar. My hand is still swollen from when the track bar let loose and my hand stopped it from hitting some other piece of metal. Phheww!

Old shocks! Some of the worst I've seen.

Test fit with a 31. I think I can go bigger!

Sorry about the photo quality, bad lighting in my garage.
More to come this afternoon. The front is all back together and I am starting on the rear today. My camera died before I finished last night so I need to go take some finished pics right now.
Stay tuned...or don't. Peace.

And a couple of the finished product. I had to temporarily ziptie a few items out of the way until I can change them out, but it's drivable again so I can make it to work tomorrow. More to come next week!

It's been a week at least but I've had a few days to work on the jeep. I installed TJ flares, welded a couple of patches in, replaced the factory air box with an intake, added an electric fan(pics to come), hung the rear bumper, converted my tank over to 20 gallon, moved the filler to the drivers side, new seat covers and installed a set of 33's with 1" wheel spacers. I also managed to slice my hand in the process of removing the vent tube sleeve..
