For me what my big Uniden CB did was be available at 6 in the morning at the Walmart in Barstow on the way to a trail ride up in Big Bear. That was over 15 years ago and it still go strong.

SSB is the only difference, Jerry.

I don't run it anymore. It was a fine radio and always worked well, even upside down I just didn't have the space after the Roll cage install. I now run a Cobra 75 WXST

It was a testament to how well that Rugged Ridge bracket worked though.

I run an ICOM 706MKIIG mounted under the passenger seat with the head unit mounted in between the sun visors.

Just a couple ham radios for voice, APRS, and HF... obviously it's more than just trail comms.
Would add a GMRS radio if more people would switch over to it.
Can tune one of the radios to CB if I need to listen to the music someone is playing, or farting into the mic, or whatever asshattery they are doing.
But as previously mentioned you want to use whatever everyone else is using.

I secured my CB mount with radiator hose clamps to the center roll bar behind the front seats. The CB (TRC-415) sits close enough for me to hear it without an external speaker, but far enough back/away I don't smack my head bumping around on the trail.

I have a Kenwood TM-V71A mobile rig I am about to transfer into my Jeep. I am a ham (I have a vintage CB from my SIL but it needs some TLC, it is really a base rig and not a mobile). I am looking to add an HF rig down the road (no pun intended!)

Overhead between the visors to the keyless entry reciever housing. Mic clip screwed to the overhead light housing.

What kind of radio do you have? My Kenwood VHF might fit in a similar profile...

I run this and a Cobra CB. I got the Kenwood because it was a requirement for being part of the KOH Staff to have a race radio.

I run a Kenwood TS-480sat and enjoy it. The control head is a bit larger than most mobile HF radios but it is also not as menu driven so many of the adjustments you would want/need to make it just a button push or a knob turn away.

When I had it all installed in my '97 or '00 XJ.
