Weird Door Lock Behavior 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am installing an aftermarket car alarm and after hooking up the alarm to the door lock/unlock wires nothing happens. I tested the alarm and it sends out a negative 12 volt pulse. Both my driver and passenger door switches work for locking and unlocking the door. Using a power probe I noticed that when I test the leads to the switch "orange/violet for lock" and "pink/black for unlock" that they are grounded out. putting 12v positive pops the breaker on my power probe and obviously putting 12v negative does nothing as its already grounded out. I checked the wires going from the switch to the actuator and there is no shorts. I am a bit confused on how to hook up the keyless entry if I can't even trigger the door locks with the power probe but the switches themselves on the door work just fine.
