Vehicle won't turn on with new radio

I bought an OEM stereo off eBay. I plugged it in to my jeep and now it won't turn on. It still turns on with the old radio so thankfully I have that. The new radio is from a dodge caravan but does that matter if its still a Chrysler brand? My car acts like its turning on but won't start and completely shuts off. but then I plug in the old radio and its fine. I have gas, I checked the fuses, the dealer has no answers, a local audio specialist has no answers, I am at a loss here please help.

Yes, it does matter what model/year it's out of.
Modern OEM radios are now integrated into the vehicle's CAN bus computer system. That CAN bus has undergone changes over the years, including data transfer speed changes.
If the radio you purchased is from a vehicle with a different CAN bus speed, it will cause all sorts of strange problems.
And not all model years changed at the same time, so just because they may have come from the same year doesn't automatically means it's the same speed.

Maybe the radio is simply bad. Wouldn't be the first time an EBay item showed up defective.

The Caravan and the Wrangler are both high speed canbus radios. However pre 12 radios won't always work in a 12+.

So, if it's a 12+ radio from a Caravan, it should work in a 12+ Wrangler. If it doesn't it's probably a bad radio.

It is from a 2010 caravan going into a 2015 patriot. I am going to a better dealer today to get help with it. Like I said my dealer was not helpful at all but the one I am traveling to has much better reviews for the service department. The eBay seller is getting defensive and rude as time goes on so I am afraid it may be defective and he knows it. He asked me to close the case this morning but there is no way I am doing that until I get to the dealer and they either get it working or tell me its defective.

OK, The Caravan radio will not work in a Patriot. The Patriot is a Low speed can bus vehicle, requiring a Low speed Can Bus radio, the Caravan is a High Speed Can Bus system and uses a High Speed Can Bus radio.

You have to match Can Bus speeds. The seller is not at fault here, sorry. You simply bought the wrong radio.

These are low speed vehicles.

You called the manufacturer or you called the seller?
Just because the radio "fits" doesn't mean it will work, and the actual manufacturer should have informed you about the different CAN Bus speeds.

If this is a used head unit, it's most likely the seller didn't know there were different speeds.

Did the seller supply you with a PIN# for the radio? Not that it will help you with this one, since it's the wrong radio for your vehicle...but you need to know that all of these radios are protected from theft by not working when you move it from one vehicle to another. When you put the correct radio in, it will ask you for a 4-digit PIN before it will work. If you buy a used radio, the seller needs to give you that PIN.

A pin is not on a 2010 Caravan radio but it's a very good point. Pin's came about around 2012. For a 2015 Patriot, the proper radio will most likely need a pin
