HF antenna on a TJ, shouldn't be too hard. I have an Outbacker on my sailboat, mounted on the stern pulpit. It is similar in size to a CB whip. You move a jumper on the antenna to change bands. Radio is a Icom IC-9000. I have the auto tuner and use the remote head. I also output the monitor to a 5 inch screen for easier reading. Mike KG7VL

i run a FT8800 in the Scrambler and am just getting into APRS. At home, have 40' Rohn 25 tower supporting some verticals, a G5RV and a high sierra screwdriver using a FT897 and another 8800. 10 meters lately is booming as is 15 and 20.

Maybe w can set up a HF sched sometime and see who is out there?

edit: licensed since 1978.

Look it's a 4.6!

I'd like to be a HAM but.......

I have been off work with an illness for a few weeks now. Decided to do something productive so I started studying for my Tech license. Set a goal of one week for myself. So now it has been a week and I am totally ready to take the test but I can not find a location and time that will work for me for at least another month.

I don't mind waiting, I just don't want to forget all I have learned. Guess I will start studying for General and take them both at the same time.

Go on the to ARRL on-line and see where they have a test sight in your area.

Have you taken the on-line test ? Just practice...

Would you be moving when doing HF. Why not a "take apart antenna" with tire mount for when you are stopped.

I use a W8AFX Eagle One antenna with a
LDG Z-100Plus. The antenna is 31' tall, and
colaspes to around 4 feet. Portable rig is an
old Yaesu FT-77 I picked up for $50.

http://www.w8afx.com/

The mount I made:

Used it out at the OBX off the balcony.

Nice little portable setup!

The base rig, I run with a G5RV:

Tunes flat 6 meters through 80 meters,
with the internal antenna tuner!

(with the exception of 30, and 60 meters)

When we do right, no one remembers. When we do wrong, no one forgets.

Yeah, I really wanted to be able to access
the hatch while the antenna was in place.

No problem! It tunes 10-40 meters, and will do
80 meters with a 4:1 balun.
