How many hams do we have on here?

Just curious how many hams we have on here, and how many people are at least curious about being a ham? Dont have to list call signs if you dont want to.

Newly minted Tech licensee here, along with my wife here in Colorado.

KK4EKC. Still haven't decided on a mobile setup yet, I'm running a borrowed mobile rig and magmount antenna in my office which will hit the closest couple of repeaters and that's about it

Definitely a decent amount of us on here. I wish there were more jeepers that would get their ticket. The comm for ham is far superior to CB, it may be a little more expensive but could actually help out in an actual emergency, yet many people seem to not want to. Shrug.

Congrats on the ticket

Congrats on the ticket
I know a lot more Jeepers/4 wheelers are going to HAM in NorCal since it is the preferred way to talk on the Rubicon trail. The trail has 2 repeaters you can hit. One at Spider lake. The other reapeater is the Elderado 805 which is located in Placerville. The Spider Lake Repeater is linked to the Eldorado 805 and Tahoe 805. The Tahoe 805 is located in the Tahoe basin area.

W9WBZ here from Indiana, I got my novice ticket in 1987 and My tech a year later and been General class since 1989. My jeep is outfitted with an Icom v-8000 for 2M. I also have Becker Mexico AM-FM-SW radio. This a very unique radio, it is basically a typical in dash radio except it has the international SW broadcast bands. I also have XM and a trunk-tracking scanner and Bel radar detector
Yes I am a radio Geek.......

I'd say that better than 2/3rds of the local wheelers in my area are Hams. My local club has just finished linking up a few repeaters throughout the province and we now have almost half the province linked. Were working on a few others so we would be linked from Northern BC to Southern AB and all possible with just a handheld radio.

Go to the ARRL site, and there is a section for finding a test session near you. http://www.arrl.org/find-an-amateur-radio-license-class

Next, there is numerous study guides online, eham, qrz, etc all are sites with tests you can take to prep. Once you can pass them, go to a test session, some do walk ins, some want call ahead. Photo id is needed with current address. $15 or there abouts is the fee, and if you flunk, you can retake the test again. If you pass the first test, technician, then you may try the general test, no extra charge. If you pass, you can try the extra. I missed the general by 1 question, without studying. Once you pass, in a week you can get your callsign on the FCC site, and your on your way. Then you ask us, where to blow your money, hehehe
