CB price??

So i was lookin for cb's online while i was at work today. Found this::

http://www.walcottcb.com/complete-pa...th=340_377_379

Now i know i still gotta get the rest of the ****. Antenna, antenna mount and coax cable. Priced it all out and it came to about 130. Is that way too much?

The antenna was a Firestik 4' Firefly for 20. Some generic mount for 20. And a 18' coax cable for 22. Seems like thats way too high but am i wrong?

wal mart sells a cobra cb for like 30 bucks. it's the one i have and works great. As far as antenna and coax: check out some local truckstops. Definitely the way to go

Your gonna spend 100 for a decent set up. I have a $30 Cobra from wally world and a good firestik antenna and cable. A good antenna will make your system, make sure you get it tuned.

Like I said, just make sure you have a good antenna. A cheap antenna on the best CB will only be as good as the cheap antenna. A cheap CB with a good antenna will perform just as well as a high end CB with a good antenna.

And the cheap CB's usually have less features making them simpler to use.

x2 You can get that Cobra 19 at Wally World. And that price sounds about right, my setup was around there. Good setup though, a lot of people run that 4' Firestick and it's a good antenna. Good Luck!

Figure out where you're going to mount the antenna before deciding on the length. If it'll be fairly high up like at tail light or spare tire mounting bracket level, a 3' will likely be a better choice for clearance reasons. Performance wise, there's not that much difference between a 3' and 4'... especially on the trail. Heck my 2' antenna works just fine for the trail.

When you have a choice, buy American made.

Today I got a new Uniden 510 ProXL on ebay for $40 (including shipping). I also ordered a Firestik 2FS tuneable antennea, Firestik stud mount and Fireflex coax from trucker-store.com . $60 for all with shipping. The top of the antennea should be even or a couple inches above the height of my hardtop with the mount I have in mind. This will be all I need for my uses and should be great on the trail.

Ill have to check out that site then. Does the 510 have PA capabilities? One reason I want a cb. To yell at people outside.

I don't think the 510 has PA capability. Look at the 520 or 530. They are only slightly higher in price from what I saw. I did a google search. I just looked a min ago. The 520 has PA.

Alright thats what i had thought. The trucker store.com has good prices on stuff too. Gonna go through them for all the other stuff i need. And get a radio off ebay like you did.

I guess it kinda comes down to preference when it comes to brands? I have always been lookin at Uniden but is Cobra really any better?

You may find you dont get very good performance with the antenna that low, ideally you should have about 1ft of antenna above the roofline. However with the top off you will probably be fine.

I had bids on both but won the Uniden. Either one will be fine.

I am going to make a custom mount for it so I can make it so that a small amount can be over the top. Its just gotta clear the garage door.
