any other Hams on here doing anything with DSTAR ?

I just ordered an Icom IC-2200H it has the option to run a DSTAR module . I will have the radio in a few days, and will probably order the DSTAR module in a few weeks. Was just wondering if anyone on the forum is using DSTAR

My club has a repeater, but dang little traffic. seems to be another B/W that really doesn't get you anything.

Unless you're in a large organization like a search and rescue unit where it's good to know where everyone is via their GPS locations, I am still trying to figure out DSTAR's benefit to the average ham. It almost seems like a feature just because it can be done in search of an application.

When you have a choice, buy American made.

I am not completely up on DSTAR, what are its many uses other than seeing where other hams are that are also running DSTAR or letting the wife keep track of you?

It's not just seeing where the other operator is, its being able to work the station voice or data. regardless of where the 2 stations are on the planet you hit the dstar repeater local to you I hit mine the main Dstar server links us we talk... Or seeing the system uses the same protocol as most internet applications you could tether your laptop to your Dstar radio and use it to check and send email or browse a webpage.
