2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel with alternator working intermittently

I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel engine.
A couple of months ago, the alternator quit working and a new alternator was installed by a professional (not at a Chrysler dealer). At the same time, a new battery was also purchased and installed.
Since then, new alternator works intermittently. I've plugged a voltmeter and it may read 14.7 for a day or two and then goes down to 11.2, 11.3 at which point I stop driving the car.
After a few days without driving the car, and after charging the battery with a home battery charger, when starting the car the voltmeter reads again 14.7, 14.8. Again 24 hours later, it goes down to 11. something.
The new alternator was checked and it is not damaged. There is a new battery, so what might be causing this issue?
A mechanic mentioned that it might be a software issue between the mercedes software and the Chrysler software.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Where are you testing it at the alternator terminal or battery posts?

Check for stored trouble codes using a scanner. Normally in the case of a charging system fault, the computer should throw a fault code which can be a useful starting point to figure out what the problem is.

The other thing that can help in cases such as this is to ensure all your battery cable connections (at both ends of the cables) are clean and tight, along with the electrical connections going to the alternator and power distribution box in the engine bay.
