Help!!!

So... I am no mechanic but my tranny went out in a 97 grand Cherokee laredo 4x4. I love my jeep. My dad and bro. Put a tranny out of a wrecked 96 in it. But now the tachometer wont go above 2 rpms and seems like it is not communicating when to change gears. New tranny seems very strong, check engine light is on too. This project broke me and I really need my jeep for work. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

well I would want to know
What was reason to replace old unit?
What is the code responsible for CEL?

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

Jtec, it stopped shifting and we changed the filter and fluid and it did not help, so we changed it. I am pretty sure the issue now has something to do with communication. Going to have codes read today after work.
