Why are jeep liberty alternators so expensive ??

My liberty's alternator died last week and isn't not charging the battery anymore.
Jeep dealer wanted to charge me $500 to have a new one, several others were around $250-300 range.
I manage to get a cheap one from Hexautoparts for $75 with a six months warranty. Why such a large difference in price ??
The quality cannot be that different.I think aftermarket alternator replacement is working fine.
Jeep must be making a huge profit on them, right ?
Now I am waiting for my new alternator replacement.

All automotive shops charge full retail on all their parts.

Dealerships sell their brand name components. They are not (or not supposed to be) knock offs, rebuilds, or used.
