Rebuild or replace 4.0 on 2006 LJ

So I’ve had many a problems with my LJ since I bought it a couple months ago. Issues with timing, opda, timing chain, etc. I’ve had about 3k worth of engine work done to it just to have it slip 8 degrees out of time again.

In lieu of taking it back to the stealership, I called out a Jeep mechanic to take a look and he believes my camshaft bearings are worn, and that it will be a costly repair and recommended a replacement motor considering all the issues I’ve have had with it and not knowing how long the previous owner drove it in this condition possibly causing more damage than originally thought.

I’m looking into Jasper for a replacement engine, but I am wondering if a rebuild of my existing engine would be a better decision.

I’m Not sure how value would be affected having a warrantied rebuilt motor dropped in vs just having mine rebuilt.

Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on my dilemma?

My Jeep is a 6 speed 2006 wrangler unlimited LJ 4.0

Jasper is a reputable rebuilder. I personally prefer to rebuild myself, but others don't care to do that or have the skill set.

With a purchased rebuild, at least the two engines are there together making the swap faster.

Rebuild it as a stroker. May be some sentimental value in a "numbers matching" rig.
