Question: transfer case '84 CJ7

I have an '84 CJ7 with turbo 350 Chevy automatic transmission. Which transfer case do I have to use? 205 or Dana 300? The existing transfer case is cracked

That looks like a Dana 18 transfercase. Ask your husband if the rear axle has a centered or offset to the passenger side differential. If it is offset, then you will need to find another Dana 18.

Apparently I sent the wrong pictures...that was one he was looking at, but the cracked one is the one with stamped numbers on it...I changed the photos leaving only the one it actually is. I don't know whether you can tell anything by those numbers

That is a Dana 300. It is best to replace it with another 300 as it will bolt right back in. You could convert to a NP205, but that is a very large and heavy transfercase that would also mean driveshaft modifications to use it.

Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. So now we just need to find either a different Dana 300 or just the housing/case since it's cracked!
