Need help diagnosing my brakes

2003 grand Cherokee, I have noticed my brakes are getting worse and worse. There are no odd sounds when I brake. But I only start to slow down once I have the pedal over halfway down. It seems like I have to press it down farther and farther every week. Fluid levels are perfect, lines are intact, and the rotors don't appear to have too much wear on them. Please help money is tight and I don't want a mechanic saying I need a whole new system when I don't. Want to DIY if possible.

Sounds like you have air in the lines. Have you tried bleeding them?

That is what I was thinking is the problem, if I find any time I'll give it a shot.

Get a couple quarts of fluid and completely flush the system until fluid comes out clear. Also check the adjustment on the rears. As they wear (drum brakes) it can cause the pedal to to down more and increase braking distance. Disregard if you have rear disc.
