At my wits end
I have a 87 YJ 4.2 and can not get it to stay running. When it cranks it will run until it gets close or to 210 and dies out, it doesn't sputter or spit it just dies out, then its hard to start take about 30 minutes before it will start again but I have to keep cranking on it for a bit. I have replaced coil, coil connector, plug wires, starter solenoid, and ignition switch. It seems to either be a temp issue or maybe a bad connection somewhere. After it dies the temp gauge continues to climb a bit but does not get in the red. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have not got to drive it all summer and would like to get it out on the trails.
Vapor lock, ignition module or magnetic pickup in distributor. You need to find out if your are missing fuel or spark when it dies and then troubleshoot that system. it is normal for the temp gauge to climb a bit when you shut down as the coolant isn't flowing and you get a big of heat soak.
