This has been an ongoing issue for 2 plus years now. I have a 08 4 door unlimited with about 160k miles. During the summer month of the year after driving for about 20 miles or so the transmission seems to lock in 2nd gear. It is real slow from a stop position and as I climb in speed, i climb in RPMs. At about 50mph I'm at about 3500 RPMs which makes highway driving almost impossible. The issue will go away after the jeep has sat for the night and driving the next day all is fine until about 20 miles into the drive the issue happens again. Almost 2 years ago the tranny problem never corrected itself and was permanently stuck in 2nd..long story short took it to a tranny shop and they recommend a rebuild saying this and that had been destroyed. The shop fixed her up but weeks after the rebuild the issue had come back again numerous times. Obviously called them back and said I still have the same issue and with each time bringing it back to them they gave the transmission a clean bill health. I am just wanting any other possible solutions to this issue! Any advice would be appreciated. Fluid level has been check on tranny, it is full and clear however has a smell that is hard to describe, kinda like a piece of celery. Radiator has been changed about 6 months ago with an after market one and cooler lines running from tranny to radiator have been checked with nothing looking worn or leaky

An electronically shifted auto trans that will only shift into 2nd gear or reverse means it's in what is called "Limp Mode". It's an emergency operation mode that is designed to allow you to limp the vehicle to a place where it can be repaired. You need to hook up a scanner and post up any fault codes the Jeep has -- the key trick for pulling codes is insufficient as it won't display all transmission codes.
