Can somebody help me figure out what is going on??

Hey guys. I'm not sure if it says what kind of jeep I have, but I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ IL4. I've got a problem when I'm driving around and I can't figure out what it is. When I'm just cruising around my jeep starts to do this little popping thing. I'll be driving and the RPMs will shoot up about 1,000 and drop back down to normal almost instantly. When this happens sometimes it feels like I pumped the brakes for a split second and then sometimes I can't feel it but I can still see the RPMs shoot up. It also does this random thing not as often, but when I am driving the engine does a little shudder. I won't be accelerating, l but just cruising and then the engine lugs a little bit. Like it will feel like I'm pumping the gas pedal, but I can't gain any speed and the only way I have been able to stop it when it does that is let off the gas, take it out of gear, put it back in gear and keep going. I went to the dealership and they said they noticed the bouncing of RPMs when I hit bumps but it isn't always when I hit bumps. They mentioned that it could be a few sensors, but aren't completely sure. If somebody could help that would be great.

Check all of the grounds under the hood. Make sure they are clean and tight.

Do you know what was good about the good old days? I wasn't good, And I wasn't old!

Senators and Congressman should wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers so we could identify their corporate sponsors....
