automatice jeep cherokee stalling

for the past week i have had the issue were the jeep is wanting to stall as your driving i have a 97 jeep Cherokee country 4L i6 with a automatic trans and what will happen is that while your driving the car would start hesitating and sputtering and at the same time the rpms would go down to zero then back up and it will do that a couple of times a lil fast with out stopping before it just quits and sometimes it will take a lil bit before it will start back up today it made it 2 miles from the house before it went out on my dad... but for like 5 or so years the fuel pump has stopped keeping pressure in the line so you have to cycle the key 2 or 3 times before you can start it but now i think its just gone to the point so i ordered one today hoping that it fixes it but is there anything that yall would recommend me look at if this doesn't fix it or if the issue continues im wanting to try and keep it running with out any major issues like this until winter it over
