About differential fluid....

I managed to get the square bolt off the front diff this morning to check if it had enough fluid. As I removed the bolt a small stream of the fluid started to spill out. Is there such thing as too much? I was told it should come to the bottom edge of the bolt hole. It wasn't gushing out mind you, but I want to make sure it wasn't too much. I couldn't get the dang rubber plug off the back one cuz I was afraid of ripping it. I noticed that the check hole was higher on the rear diff cover than the front one. Is that right? Is the fluid in the rear supposed to be up to the bottom edge of the hole as well?

When should fluid be changed and what kind would you use?

Every 30k, 70-90 wt, if you have trak-loc in the rear then a friction modifier has to be added..any dealer will have it.

Im getting a HPD30 and ford 8.8 with 4.88s, no lockers. My local napa stocks there brand Napa Premium 80w90, $4, and royal purple 85w140. It can get cold here in boston, is 85w140 too thick? Its also $15/ quart.

Is the napa brand fine? Its made by the same people who make Valvoline.
