95 Grand Cherokee auto, transmission slow to shift to first at stop like after warm

New to me Jeep Grand Cherokee, automatic. When cold it shifts completely normal. But once warm, the transmission is slow to engage first when starting out, then it slams into gear and goes.

Can someone point me in a direction in which to start diagnosing this? Or is this a common problem and you know what the cause is?

Andrew

does it shift all gears, downshifts ?

before a trans diagnostic ck with dropping pan band adjustments and gauges I would -
check fluid - quantity, color and any particles in fluid.
TV cable adjustment,
Check for codes- don;t know till you look.

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

The OP should update his profile to ID the engine, along w/ the previously identified year and model.

When it's cold or luke warm, it shifts normal. Up-shifts and down-shifts and converter lock-up are completely fine.

I haven't played with it at all, it's been raining, nothing sucks like laying underneath having rain drip on you.

It's the I-6, automatic transmission. Thanks for the suggestion, but I wasn't planning on adding anything to my profile.
