1987 YJ engine swap

Currently have a stock 1987 YJ 4.2 inline 6. There isn't anything wrong with my in6 I would just like something that will do a bit better on the highway. I offroad a lot mud, water, rocks pretty much anything I can get into. But at the same time maybe once a month I make about a 350mile trip with most of the miles on the interstate. I want to stay with an AMC engine if I can find one. Not the best mechanic but with some points in the right direction I can handle it. So what I am needing is advice on if I should go bigger or mod my 258. Also on a transmission and anything else I would need to swap.

Check out Clifford Research. Keep the 258. Change the ignition to HEI or a better Ford system.
