1979 CJ7 Charging System

Hi - I have 1979 CJ7 with a AMC 401 V8. I just purchased the vehicle and am upgrading the charging system, which i was told by the previous owner has issues, causing the battery to constantly drain. It has a delco alternator in it now, I have purchased a new powermaster alternator to replace the current one. Powermaster-57294

I am not sure on how to properly hook up the pigtail? Also, does it need a regulator? Any other suggestions on chasing down my battery drain problem?

Thanks for your help!

This should be a standard GM10/12SI alternator housing.
The pigtail should only go in one way.
The regulator is internal as was the stock unit.

All of this information should be on the instructions

Power drains are virtually never caused by the alternator.
First inspect all added appliances (lights, power amps, stereo's, etc...) to see if one is improperly wired into the system.
Use a test light to check all fuses with the ignition off. Find the hot ones and pull them one at a time till the drain stops. Follow that circuit till you find the issue.
