62 mm throttle body

I installed a 62 MM throttle body yesterday. Took about 5 minutes to install. The 4 liter started and idled perfectly. You can feel the extra power when you open it up. The engine gets up to 5 grand faster than before and sounds different. Maybe a bit louder and much easier to chirp the tires when shifting. :^)

I stuck a rack extension on so I could use a 2" x 12" x 16' to stand on for rain gutter work at my machine shop. I modified the rack extension so it lined up with the van ladder racks. The van racks are wide enough to carry 4' x 8' plywood sheets. I have carried 15" x 20' drain pipes in the past on this rig.

Chainsaw hand throttle

I normally use my 1945 Willys to jump start my 1965 International loader backhoe but yesterday I used my XJ instead. The Willys has a hand throttle that I set to help charge and start the International diesel. The XJ wasn't charging enough so I used a chainsaw on the gas pedal to hold 2 grand instead. That got the old diesel running.

I was going to ask if there were any hand throttles for an XJ but I quickly found a Wrangler hand throttle that fits the 4.0 liter. The TeraFlex 4870402 is close enough for me.

The 4.0ís are pretty basic with their cable driven throttle. That kit should work fine. Most of the guys I wheel with run a hand throttle if they have a stick shift. They mount it right to the shifter.

What kind of RPM do guys usually run out there with the hand throttle?
Cause I had this idea awhile wondering if you could get an Ext Idle switch to work in drive.
Not just park or neutral like intended.
Thinking 1000 RPM would not work though.
Fourspeedman picked up on the idea but can't remember what the outcome was.
Memory is not what it used to be so can't even be sure it was him experimenting with it. LOL.

After some light 4 wheeling in the WA Yacolt Burn Area, I had a snap coming from the area around my powersteering gearbox. It would make a loud snap at both low and moderate speeds but only in 4wd. I had a friend turn the steering wheel and it appeared to be coming from directly below the stock airbox.
I thought maybe that the spacer between the frame and gearbox had given up the ghost. So I wanted to insure I could break the three mounting bolts free so I could install a steel spacer to replace the aluminium factory piece.
I found that the first bolt I loosened was the easiest to break free. The remaining two were incredibly tight. After soaking them in PB Blaster for awhile I was able to break them loose with a long breaker bar.
I retorqued the first one to 70 Ft/Lbs and approximated the other two.
The next morning I drove the Jeep in both 2wd and 4wd and the steering returns to center better than it had previously. No more noise and no more twitchiness at highway speeds.
Only took me a year and a half to figure this out 🙂

I would say 1200-1500 most of the time. Just high enough that it will climb without risk of stalling. Typically while riding the brakes.

Yeah I kinda figured the 1000 RPM would not quite cut it. LOL.

My passenger side axle seal started leaking. The one from my cad delete I did.

That was a cluster trying to find the right seal then, turns out it wasnít right still. Only been maybe 4 months. All the seals that everybody else used in theirs donít fit my special Dana 30.

Not sure if maybe the ID was too tight? I remember they were really close.

Research has found that what Iíve got is the closest seal I can use. Between the 3 Jeeps itís 1 step forward two steps back.

Flushed the silver Jeeps cooling system one more time today and filled with distilled water and actual coolant.

Also got the rest of the air out of the cooling system in the Comanche. Ended up putting the back of it on ramps and using the temp sensor port to bleed the last of the air out. No more overheating. Itís driving pretty nice too! Almost have all the parts together for a full brake system minus the master and booster.

XJ tree work

I dropped a 90' Ash yesterday using my 96 XJ, a Warn XD9000i winch, a snatch block and a chainsaw. I chained the XJ to a fence post to keep it from sliding down the driveway. After felling I cut the trunk into 3 pieces to drag them up to the log splitter.

The tree was too close to the sheep fence to use my 14HP saw with a 30" bar so I used my Echo trimming saw with an 18" bar.

I had been using trash bags as a winch cover for the last 2 decades. I finally broke down and purchased a real winch cover for $16.35. I did not expect it to also cover the roller fairlead but it just barely does. Bonus!

The 3rd unused 12 volt connection is for the Meyer E47 snow plow pump.
