I learned that you MUST hook up the emergency brake cables on the body end to install the brakes or they are way too long inside the drum area. I also learned that if you didn't hook up the metal part the the drum end before you installed the body end you need 3 hands to compress the new Emergency cable spring to install. (II used a bench vice that was not mounted and put that on the floor to grab the end. I also found you need a ratchet strap to pull the the cables enough to hook up the body end.

There are no picts of this as tempers were very short by this point in my learning curve.

Emergency brake cables are way more of a fight than I ever expected.

I got the UCA bushings out at the axle yesterday, now I just have to wait till tomorrow when the new IRO flex joints are supposed to get here (it's been almost a month of waiting) then I should be good to go since everything in the suspension and steering is new.

Ordered a 2.5 radiator for the MJ to replace the grody one in it.

Also got a new exhaust manifold, however it appears no parts stores can get the front/down pipe, but they can get the tailpipe. Quadratec it is for that

Kinda plan on running the 2.5 till it gives up, then go 4.0, but it actually runs really good for 193xxx miles. Knock on wood

I got the IRO flex joints yesterday and got them in, now I have to figure out why after all the new parts it still has some steering and ride issues.

I either overlooked some thing or there is something out of wack, so I will have to go over everything and check all the angles and measurements in the front suspension and steering to make sure it's all straight.

Also make sure that itís all tight. And check stuff like ball joints. Try rotating the tires and check tire pressures. Lots of things can throw off the front end other than the usual track bar issues or bad TREís.

Nothing today & come the week-end when there might be something to report you'll be saved more drivel from me 'cos I'm out of here. Learned a lot & feel I've some sort of rapport with a few - BUT I can't take any more of these constant e-mails saying I've supposedly subscribed to 1/2-doz threads, when I've taken every precaution to ensure I'm not.
I was informed it'd been fixed, & so it was - for almost 24 hours!
It's a shame 'cos there's lots I'm going to miss but what's left of my sanity comes 1st!

Thanks for reply.
I have a new thread in Tech under Steering Issues Need Help that explains everything so far.

Picked up this 96 yesterday, been sitting in a field for some years, and was offered a deal I couldn't refuse. So far no crank, and no fuel. But before I can do anything to it, the mice have been all over the inside, and I can't even poke my head inside for very long without being forced out by the strong urine smell. So today I will be taking the seats out and do my best to clean them and the carpet.

After my last comment saying it was right I was all wrong, it did drive better but was still not as right as I thought.

So I started over by taking measurements of everything and found some misalignments in the front axle for one passenger side wheelbase was 1/2" shorter than driver side, front axle was 1/4" to far passenger side.

So now wheelbase is 101.4 on both sides and axle is now centered and WOW what a difference that makes, it now drives alot better.

Tomorrow I am going to adjust the castor as much as possible without creating driveline vibes and that should also improve the steering and ride.

Then I will try and figure out a configuration for the steering stabilizer that clears everything, with the new OTK steering it has not been easy getting it to clear everything and still operate without binding.

This is in the stock axle mount but it hits the track bar on full turn.

Drove the Jeep into the garage yesterday morning at 8 am to do the transmission swap. Fortunately it still shifted between 1st and reverse, it was just slipping bad and didnít shift into higher gears. I had the trans on the floor before lunch and swapped some parts over to the new trans. Also pulled the pan on the new trans to make sure everything looked happy.

Drove out of the garage under its own power all finished up at 3. Test drive went well so I decided to trek up to Cabelas for my local Jeep clubs Jeep meet. Jeep did great! Drives way better with this transmission. Smoother shifts and whatnot. Iím just glad to have it back, and it was great to see everyone. They were making bets about whether I would show up in the Jeep or not haha.

New exhaust manifold on the mj, going to be coming back off and run both manifolds on the big belt sander to get em flat.

Going to get some iron man motor mounts too, current ones are bad

Would any of you guys happen to know if the ax15 takes the same trans mount as the ax5?

Trying to get everything ready for my first full moon ride in the jeep, I am planning on a trail I know well nothing to extreme just an enjoyable ride through the desert.

May even get to do a few miles without the lights on just by moon light if there is not to many clouds, and if I can get my phone to work right I might even get some moon light pics of jeep in the canyons or some wildlife.
