Dino will be fine, no additives needed. Some run a thicker oil like 80w140 to keep the ratcheting around turns a bit quieter. My buddy's Spartan in his C8.25 got a lot quieter as he put more miles on it.
Thanks. I don’t notice it too much except at low speeds. It’s really been nice having it. Thanks for the tip.

Today my buddy and I ripped out the factory radiator (97,000 miles and untold hours of police use) and removed the old trans cooler lines which were shot. Discovered that the trans cooler lines are a pita to remove but we did get it accomplished. Got 95% done, ran out of time and will come back to it later. What is the correct trans fluid for an 97 AW4? Thought it was Merc but now being told ATF+4...

Dex/Merc II/III technically. I used Autozone Dex/Merc in mine for the 10 years I had it, and use that in the AW4s I currently service in friends' XJs.

Chrysler switched the recommendation for the AW4 to ATF+4 after the XJs were conveniently out of warranty to streamline their fluid requirements. The Toyota A340 which is very similar to the AW4 can use Dex/Merc VI fluid, like Valvoline MaxLife ATF, so that would probably be suitable to use as well, but I wouldn't use ATF+4.

Setup a pressurized water system in my Jeep for camping trips. Tank is removable everything else can roll up and be put under the seat. I need to get in there and clean up the hose runs from the tank to the pump.

I would have to drive the Jeep around aimlessly in circles to put more miles on her.
The whole I am older, don't have a life, am kinda retired (Get my first SS check next month baby!!!!), and live a 1/2 mile from my little 4 days a week/3 hours a day part time job (Which I am laid off from at the moment) that I keep telling you guys.

Just cause the price of gas can vary greatly around here, as much as 50 cents a gallon sometimes, I will drive a 1/2 hour, sometimes 45 minutes one way just to get cheaper gas.
All in an effort to drive the Jeep more then I do. LOL.

Ha! We have no such establishment. Closest thing to that would be a Marathon gas station next town over. The tank on the passenger side had started to split which necessitates replacement. I’m always amazed at how small these radiators are...

So I went to the store for supplies and to rig up the suction pump.
I have one of those Harbor Freight pumps. Don't really like it much. Kinda awkward to work with IMO.
But I remembered the orange hose on it. So the orange hose fits in the clear hose.
So I bought one of these and shoved it in the orange hose.

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NTH9...ordInput=90552

Shoved all that into the clear hose and and used a clamp.
Figure with the splicer the hoses won't collapse under the clamp.
I have gotten in the habit of using fuel injection clamps instead of hose clamps.
Put one on the other end of the clear tube to keep it from coming off the suction pump.
So the orange being smaller should fit better in the 8.25 fill hole.
But the fill hole on the D30 is smaller so I am about to find out if it will fit in there. LOL.

So the front diff oil looked pretty much like the rear.
Orange hose worked out OK and was able to suck out about 37 ounces.
So seeing how capacity is about 40 ounces that is pretty good.
Refilled the diff, buttoned her up, and now on to the tranny fluid.
After a break. LOL.

So I almost forgot to take a picture of used oil in a drain pan.
Poured some out of the waste container just to take a picture for you guys.
Know how much you guys like pictures. LOL.
So just a shade over 3 quarts came out of the tranny.
It looks less red then I hoped it would seeing how there is only about 6K on it.
Was thinking about swapping tranny and transfer case fluid every 5 years instead of every 2.
Now not so sure. At least about the tranny.
Transfer case was so red I could have reused it. MLOL.
So I figure I will throw in 3 quarts, break down everything, take a shower, and go see the guys at the
garage that I give my waste oil to.
Checking once it gets nice and hot, probably add a little here and there, and get it to the level that I like.

So I got my anti-freeze swapped out today. Dropping the lower hose gives you about 2 gallons.
So there is a gallon still in there. Why I do it every other year.
And why I installed an Ext Idle switch so I could keep the RPM's at 1000 when burping out all the air.
Oh and my landlord takes the old anti-freeze and uses it.
Don't know in what and don't care. Hey I don't have to dispose of it. LOL.

Ever since I extended my rear diff breather to the front of the Jeep I have
been meaning to cap off the white nipple in the uni-body.
Not really sure why. I just keep forgetting. Probably been a couple years now.
Finally did it today.

Dayemnnn… your used coolant looks Great!

When I drained my xj's radiator a couple months ago, for the first time since owning it, it was brown colored.
The Coolant Reservoir Bottle on the inner fender well had about 3/4" deep of gray stuff at the bottom of it. I scraped all that out with a long flat head screw driver and then rinsed it all out till it was clean.

I am guessing that the gray colored stuff was old Radiator Sealer possibly.

Thank You,
Bo

You have to realize that coolant is only 2 years old. With about 6000 miles on it.
When I first bought the Jeep I had to put in a new radiator.
Went with new hoses and a thermostat too.
Flushed the hell out of it.
With an '00 and a 0331 head I don't take chances.
Especially since a gallon of anti-freeze and a gallon of distilled water run me about $10 total.
$10 every other year?
Yeah I am OK with that. LOL.
