Well, had about a quarter-inch of fresh ice laid over the Jeep last night. Took five minutes and change to pry the door open so I could start it & let it warm up enough to scrape.

The drive into Eugene (15 miles or so) wasn't all that bad, considering. I rolled along about 40 most of the way, but we were early enough the surface still had some roughness & therefore grip. It's worse now that it's had enough traffic to polish/melt the surface.

I'll try to get some pics up later, I had the GoPro in the windshield for the drive, but nothing much to see in the dark. I may go sight-seeing now that it's light.

Lots of trees, branches & powerlines down. I hate ice storms...

Well, it's confirmed: the Smittybilt tire carrier bumper will not work with shackle relocation brackets or a gas tank skid. I checked their website, installation instructions, and other retailers to see if it is mentioned anywhere. Shocker; it isn't. Not even a slight allusion to it not working. So now the debate will begin with Amazon to return this for a full refund as well as not paying to have it shipped back. I wish I had known this info earlier to avoid this problem. Hopefully it'll all work out and I can go with the JCR unit as I had wanted to all along.

Whelp my good deed for the day is done. Yesterday a young kid had his serpentine belt come off while driving. Wrapped around his clutch fan. Posted on a Michigan XJ page. Nobody would help him. I drove the 30 mins today to install a belt and tighten it down so he could get home. In a snow storm.

Amazon is pretty good about returns. In the past they've refunded me for larger items and told me to just keep them because it wasn't worth the cost to ship them back.

Did the simple cap off/start trick and all's well. Just 1 1/2 gallons low on coolant.

A really bad habit of never flushing the radiator, that's how. I'm on the hunt to discover the truth of it all.

My waterpump leaked well I didn't know it leaked because there was never a puddle where I parked. Found out it was leaking when I came out of the gas station to witness a waterfall of steaming hot coolant dripping off the bottom of the bumper lol.

OH them good gas station stories. My old 99 XJ had a aftermarket kill switch installed. I went to start it after getting gas one evening (snowy and worked at 4am). And had to wiggle the killswitch. It started and went home. Few days later I'm at a gas station in the hood. Damn thing broke. Wouldn't start. I had to rip apart my dash in this parking lot to get it home.

I think I've told this one but my gas station fun story: I make my wife carpool with me on a badly icy day. A few miles from her work we were ahead of schedule and ai decide to pull over for gas. The *******ed starter goes out at the pump and we get to wait 4 hours for a tow because of all the ice accidents.

Whelp I thought Kalamazoo area has a lot of tools. But Saginaw has it beat. Me my gf and a buddy (he's local to Saginaw) walk into hooters. Guy has a lowered 2wd duramax with a 10" exhaust tip pulls up and spools up constantly.

As much as I did not want to do this I pulled the trigger on these:

https://www.coverking.com/seat-cover...at-covers.html

AutoAnything was running a sale. Between that and a promo code I paid $320 out the door for removable headrest covers and the back bench ones. Bought black ones. I have a camel interior, the 2 sets of leather seats I bought are camel, but hoping with the agate trim I have in the Jeep with the camel interior these will not look out of place. Condition of the leather seats is iffy at best. Was going to overthink my options in the spring and decide what I was going to do. But the price was too good so I decided to chance it. Plus I have contacted Coverking and they said that they would sell me 2 extra headrest covers. Since I have 2 sets I am toying with the idea of putting headrests in the back seat. Thinking the fabrication that will be needed to do this is a little beyond me so will need a little help from a friend or two. Hopefully the fit, if and when I end up using the covers, will be acceptable.
