Not a bad haul from the junkyard. Scored a cold air k&n intake, hood supports & tow hooks with brackets for the WJ. Then pulled a throttle body spacer (that'll never get used) from a 4.0 XJ. Then got a few sets of 703's and 784's. Not bad for $15

There is an outside chance I might be able to pick up a TUPY 0331 head from a '03 WJ. Will this be a straight bolt on for a '00 XJ with CA Emissions? Research seems to indicate the head itself is but not the engine. It is just the head that I need to confirm for sure about.

As best I recall from research: Yes. The 03-04 WJ head should be an exact match for the 00-01 XJ.

Thinking if this pans out I should grab it. Have an 0331 head, not a TUPY, in my Jeep. No problems but..... No idea what shape it is in. Just assume it needs to be rebuilt. If it even can be. But might be able to pick it up for as cheap as $50. Seeing how local it is to me I might have to just because.

for 50 I'd just grab it and find out. Pretty sure it'll bolt right up though.

Gonna see if I can work it out. Might have to buy the whole engine for $50 but I want to see if I can get the guy to part with just the head for $50. Can kinda tell by the ad he wants the whole engine just gone.

I just wish my temptation was that cheap. I keep talking myself out of buying a salvage title trailblazer that's been on CL for awhile just for the 5.3L. I have never tried anything near as complicated or expensive as that swap but I still want to do it so very much.

Yup same temptation here. Whole swap can be done in an xj for $3500

I found an amazing gem today at the yard up here. 2 door, door weather stripping. It's discontinued except for Jeep parts whatever that want $200 for one side. I scored both sides, factory new for $10!!!

I admire you guys. Thinking a head swap is pretty much pushing the limits of what I am and what I am not capable of at my age. And you guys want to shove a Chevy 5.3 in your XJ's!!! I did put a Buick 231 CI V6 in a '46 CJ2A back in the '70's. Well me and a group of friends. That was easy though. It was a common swap. Advance Adapters for the mounting to the tranny. Weld in some steel, had to pay somebody to do that, for the motor mounts. Done and done.

Think I have seen you post about those before. Nice score. Nothing like finding "fill in the blank" hell yeah score at the boneyard.

The 5.3 swap is really common. If you use the LS bracket set and intake it's pretty much bolt in with all the novak and advanced adapters support for it. The rest is just wiring. Even if you go for the taller truck version of brackets and intake (which does make better low-end torque) you only really add a cowl hood to the task, not a huge deal for most.

4.0 heads are stupid easy to swap. After doing a couple I can do them in like 3-4 hours now and that's not even rushing. The coil packs and the stupid lip on the firewall do make the 00-01s annoying and longer though because you can't pull the head as one piece. edit: Not the coil packs, the stupid clips for the fuel lines is what I was thinking of.

This. It's just stupid expensive even if you can get your hands on a cheap wrecked donor. All the little stuff adds up quick. I'd planned on doing it in my K5 since the 350 locked up and it's even more bolt in on it, but I priced myself out of that pretty damn quick.

I'd put a 350 in an XJ before I did a 5.3 though. Simpler and they've got more low end torque than a 5.3 does. Much cheaper swap too.

Yeah but 5.3's are what I see. The 5.3s are easy to find cheap. There's three full already pulled 5.3+4l60e combos with harness and accessories for less than 1500 on craigslist here right now, few more waiting under hoods in the same price range. Up the max price to 2k and you can grab lq4 6.0's with the same level of completeness.

It's mostly a pipe dream anyway. I can't fab.
