I posted that before I typed everything out in my wannabe-build thread.

TL;DR - The gas tank out of a ZJ is a straight swap into an XJ and will get you 25 gallons.

Fascinating...

Sometimes I wonder if XJ owners really just want a ZJ with a flat header panel. It would certainly make my mod lists shorter lol.

Asking the important questions haha

Is that 5 extra gallons really worth it though?

Well, the jeep needs work but not as bad as the Crown Vic needs brakes. I am thinking about doing all the mods on the Vic I have been putting off. Better brakes, shocks, swaybar upgrades and tubular rear control arms.

The Jeep steering seems to be holding up but it needs way more beef. I also need some Bilstien 5100s. It rides like a forklift now

No idea, but this NAXJA thread leans towards a solid "maybe".

I was planning to swap out the fuel pump because the check valves were shot, so putting a new fuel pump into a new tank instead of the old tank wasn't an issue. And the cost of the ZJ tank was negligible.

So to answer your question, yes.

Fair enough. If my pump ever goes, I'll probably do the mod too.

My tank doesn't hold 20 gallons. Where do you guys buy your gas? I'll definitely not shop there...

And now you have a gas tank that needs pulled to service the pump. No thanks.
I see your XJ tank was a top mount so it wouldn't be an issue for you.

Interesting. My check valve is on its way out too. I just let the pump prime on a cold start up and she fires right up. See how you can't find a new gas tank for a '97-'01 XJ. Was thinking when I do the job I would just replace everything like I usually do. Poked around can't seem to find a new ZJ tank either though. So the factory XJ gas skid plate will fit the ZJ tank? I have read that a ZJ gas skid plate will fit a '97 and up with some mods. Would that be easier then using the XJ skid? Also anybody ever try to put a '96 and down gas tank in a '97 and up? Never to soon to start laying down the ground work for a future repair.
