replaced the rear pinion yoke, finally finished and installed rear driveshaft, changed rear diff oil, lubed everything from steering to control arms. Next on the list is the front end slop. Need to rebuild front DS, Axle U joints, Ball joints, and check the gears cause something doesnt seem right. Also plugs, wires, belt, A/C clutch and air filter.

That looks normal to me, your joints are working properly if they can move like that. if they could not move you would have a lot of bad noises when you try to turn.

The correct test would be to move the steering wheel as far as you can back and forth without the wheels turning. This will usually be 2-3" in the steering wheel. Have a friend move it quickly back and forth while you watch the linkage. Look for any rod ends that don't move exactly like what they are connected to. THe play shown in your video is OK, but does look a tiny bit loose.

ya it doesnt look to weird to me either, then again the camera movement may be making it harder to tell whats moving or not moving (that being said laying down, trying to wiggle a steering component with one hand and holding a camera with another isnt exactly easy)

Well I have been noticing excessive amounts of slop/looseness in the steering wheel (can move it about a quarter turn in either direction before the wheels move) didn't know if they were related or not. Also, trying to decide whether or not the mystery clunk if my front end is from this stuff or the track bar.

Thanks for the info. Shows about how much I know about my own steering It just seemed excessive to me. I'll compare with two other XJs that are right near me.
