It definitely does somehow. I'm thinking something to do with the fluctuation in temps the the exhaust goes through. From what Iv'e experienced, it's always the passenger side. I redid mine a couple summers back, you can see it also a few posts back.

ALot of the time the passengers side is worse because salt on the roads collects more at the sides than the center so the passengers side usually takes the biggest hit

I removed my diff covers and drained fluid, pulled axle shaft, and bearing seal. I need to rent a slide hammer tomorow, so I have to let it sit for now. Also, since I rotated it, the spider gears fell out. Being the first time I did this the look on my face was priceless. Simple to put back in though

I can't see them?

4-wheeling is about going where others can't won't or don't think it's safe.

Anytime you heat metal up repeatedly it will start to rust a little faster. Example is if you weld a piece of cold rolled steel to a piece of stainless the heat affected zones on each will rust first. Although the stainless won't as much it will still rust a little. That said the rust on my xj and I think most others it starts from the inside. The bottom of my floor pan didn't look bad under the carpet though it was ugly. That's also how it was on my old xj. Just in the rear.
