Thanks for the info, I figured there was more to it than just a hack and patch job. I'm not really into rewiring something that seems to be working fine. I'm not sure about the legality though, since it would still have the main Cat, it's not the same as running without one at all.

I'm not saying if you do it then the Feds will show up at your door, but its illegal to tamper with emissions stuff. I'm sure you could probably swap it without problems, but I know my Cali emissions XJ has a sticker saying it meets certain requirements on the firewall. Not saying anything would happen, but I'd hate to go through all that work only to have some idiot who takes his job too seriously not pass my jeep because its not how it came from the factory.

If you end up needing new pre-cats in the future, I would definitely paint them with high heat paint. Rustoleum makes some good stove paints. One is good for up to 1200*, the other is good up to 2000*. Replacing pre-cats is something you only want to do once. I replaced my 3rd cat last year and forgot to paint it. Its already rusting.

I don't know, the way the Feds are becoming I wouldn't be surprised if they show up at my house just for asking about removing them [puts on tin foil hat].

I hope I don't have to change them anytime soon and if I do, I will definitely keep the paint in mind, thanks.

Then buy the ZJ sliders and mod them to fit your XJ.

At 100 bucks you're pretty much there anyways with some bracket changes - the wheelbase is very similar.

I bought some WIX oil filters and an air filter for a maintenance day this weekend.

I should also have my upper and lowers arrive on Saturday from my US - lower 48 mailing destination.
