I just sold my 99 Cherokee Classic XJ

Here's an indication of what a low mileage XJs with tasteful, practical mods is worth. My early 99 XJ Classic has 43,600 miles on it.

My Jeep has way to many mods to list here, but highlights include ARB rear locker, OME 1.5" lift using TJ front springs for softer spring rate and XJ light load rear springs, and newish Cooper AT3 30 x 9.5 R15 load C.

I put my low mileage 20 year old Jeep Cherokee Classic in Autotrader ad in asking $14,000. It sold the second day. The buyer's first offer was $13,500.

People from all over the USA called me during the 1st and 2nd days and wanted to fly in to look at it, one guy even wanted to buy it sight unseen over the phone for $12,000 an hour after the ad went live, but I wouldn't take that low an offer. I sold it the 2nd day to a local guy who's first offer was $13,500. No haggling needed.

I'm reasonably satisfied, but in hindsight, I should have asked $16,000 and it would have sold within 30 days for $15,000 or $15,500.

I love that Cherokee and so does the buyer. It's good to know my baby will continue to be loved and cared for by a responsible owner that loves her. She's almost a classic.

I'm happy the buyer is a responsible old guy, not an eager kid with a saws-all who'd hack her up to fit huge tires. She can already fit 30 x 9.5 or 31 x 9.5 (245) and is regeared to 3.73. So IMO, there'd be no need to trim for larger tires. It would be a crime to cut up a Jeep like this.

Nice Jeep. It just goes to show some people have more dollars than sense. I bought my one owner Rubicon for $4,000 less than that. I would never pay over KBB private party value for any Jeep.

I have no idea what the KBB estimated value is. Whatever it is, it is irrelevant. The value is whatever the market is willing to pay. Low mileage Cherokees are a lot more rare than hen's teeth. Low mileage wranglers are more common.

I think low mileage XJs stopped depreciating around 10 years ago, and started appreciating around 5 years ago.

I think he did. That's one hell of a profit. They aren't worth nearly that much where I live.

What is the deal with the seat bottoms on the front seats? They don't match and was curious as to what is going on there.

I was wondering the same thing.

When I was putting the removable headrest leather seats in my XJ, came with one piece ones, the sets I picked up were in so so condition. I turned a passenger seat into a drivers seat. Since I was using seat covers the fact that the carpet was on the outside and leather by the console did not matter. But in my travels trying to figure out what to do I came across these:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-Jeep-G...d=401283082403

Now these are for Grand Cherokees. But I always wondered if they would work. Thinking he did not buy these exact ones but similar. And if he did I would like to know. Info like that could be useful.

I sold it for same as I bought it for 6 years ago, but I didn't get back the thousands in improvements and mods. It had 33K miles when I bought it. 43K when I sold it.

I'm severely handicapped. It's very difficult for me to get into Jeep. I had front seats reupholstered so the seat bottom would be smooth, slippery pleather to make it easy to slide in and out. I kept seat back cloth fabric to keep my back cool in Summer.

That was done a year ago. However, now I'm to handicapped to get in, unless my caregiver boosts me in. So time to sell.

Here's a pic of my new "Jeep"... Note the Buick/Cadillac horns my cousin installed for me under the basket. They're way louder than on a car because short wiring run, uses relay, and no engine, bumper, fenders, tires around it muffling the sound.

P.S. - The red wire in background is unrelated to scooter.

So that is a custom job. OK. I was really hoping you bought those Grand Cherokee seats covers like at that link I posted and they fit.
