Before you bought your first Jeep, what did you look at?

Before I bought my XJ, I had my first car I bought almost paid off and was looking for a second vehicle. Found a 1997 (?) XJ Country and knew I would have to have a co signer for the loan. Took it to my grandparents and they looked it (they were the only ones with credit good enough to co sign) and they didn't like it because the paint was coming off the flairs. Nothing else was wrong with it. Instead of buying it, I just kept my first car until the last payment when it was leaking oil, burning oil and leaking rain water (95 Grand AM). When that was happening, I knew I needed something else because I was driving 120 miles round trip for school. I then looked at a (94) Grand AWD but passed on it because the tie rod ends were shot, the tranny leaked, and the engine leaked. I ended up with an 01 Malibu until I got my 99. I don't know if I can ever go without a Jeep now.

Well I pretty much wanted a Jeep XJ since the beginning. But my first car was a 92 Hyndai Excel, I swear this thing was powered by chipmunks running on a conveyor belt, but it was $300 and I bought it when I was 14 so I couldn't complain too much. Then after 1500 miles that thing blew up and I wanted to get something that was 4x4. Couldn't find anything in my price range which is what my parents were willing to pay up front and what I would pay them back. Sooo after 5 years of driving a ford Ranger I finally got my current XJ last winter.

My very first car was a Jeep Cherokee, actually. It was an 87 I6 4x4. Drove it for about a month until the transmission went out. After that, i drove a Honda Accord (and numerous other vehicles) until i came across a deal i just couldn't pass up on my 00 WJ. Recently decided i wanted to build something for offroad, and that parts were too expensive for the WJ, especially with the QD system. Sold it, and was debating on a TJ or an XJ. Settled on the XJ for storage reasons. Happy i did. I've always loved the way XJ's look.

We had a Rubicon and then got a 96 XJ for a DD. We started doing harder stuff so we sold the Rubicon and got the XJ in my sig, for a wheeler, which I am building now.

Well, considering I had owned 10 vehicles before I ever owned my CJ-5...

I bought the 1974 CJ-5 off a fellow navy guy on my ship that was being transferred overseas and couldn't take it with him. I wasn't even looking for (another) vehicle at the time as I had my Chevy Luv I was devoting quite a lot of time (and money) to. But I'd always wanted a SWB Jeep. So I jumped at the chance when this one quite literally got dumped in my lap.

Owned quite a few other vehicles since the CJ-5. Finally two years ago got my 2nd Jeep. 1995 ZJ Limited. Had that for a year until job requirements saw it traded off. A couple months later got my current XJ an I can honestly say in one form or another I will always have a Jeep from now on.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to afford something else made in the 60's or 70's.

My friend has an '01 Ranger Edge 4x4. We call it the Danger Ranger. My first vehicle was an XJ. 1990 Limited. I had always wanted one since my dad had one since I was little. I learned to drive on his '87 then bought my '90.

i wanted a toyota tacoma.... i searched for about 6 months!! Then I was getting desperate for a vehicle and started looking at Jeeps. I wanted a wrangler to start (TJ) but my parents said no. So i found a cherokee and knew it was the Jeep for me. I fell in love with it. The day after i got it, i took it wheeling

The Jeep is a manly device. And a womanly device. An American device. Its a fitting instrument to transport the free people of a free nation with the respect to which we are entitled and the dignity that we deserve. Okay, were a little crazy to have a Jeep for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius

I had a 76 Trans Am for my first car, got it from my parents for my 16th bday. It was the 50th anniversary one also, absolutely an amazing car. It was black with the big gold bird on the hood. I drove it for about a year and the tranny went out. My dad ended up selling it
I would love to get another one someday

so i got my wrangler which ive had for 10 years now and now my 91 Cherokee

I found my XJ while looking for an Excursion. I decided the inline 6 would save a lot of gas. NOT SO MUCH!

im 18 and ive seen many a lemon until my jeeps...

1) 82 F-250 banks turbo blew the water pump at 353,000 miles and i called it quits.
2) 66 F-100 352 V8 - drove that for a couple months but needed to much work.
3) 86 dodge D-150 ram prospector "the meat wagon"... enough said.
4) 94 F-150 300 I6 (first 4x4)- "found on road dead"
5) then i rolled my dads WJ, paid the deductible and bought it back (it was pretty much fine).
6) tried wheeling the WJ and hated it... still have it for a DD and GOT MY XJ!!!! i love my beasty mobile, i feel funny even thinking about it.

<EDIT> - i probably wont own anything but XJs, ZJs, MJs, or WJs for the next 10 - 15 years.

Hello, I noticed you have an XJ. I have an XJ as well, would you perhaps like to go wheeling?
