31" Tires On A Stock XJ

Is there any way that 31" tires on aftermarket rims with 3.75 or possibly 4.0 inches of backspacing will fit on a stock XJ or do I need to get a 2.0 - 3.5 inch lift?

They'll fit, but you'll be rubbing on the way to the mall. I ran 30s with stock for awhile, and they pretty easily in the mountains.

if you dont mind your XJ loosing a few pounds form the trimings then go for it but it would be wayyyy worth it to go for a real lift, 2in works but 3.5 is juuuusssttt about right for 31's

I used to have a XJ with 31x10.5 on there but had stock wheels...it rubbed in full lock but other than that it was fine.

Same experience here, except I trimmed my fenders too. 31 is about as big as you can do without messing with your gear ratio.

31 x 11.50s on a stock XJ

i think these rims are about 4" backspaced, this is when i first got the beast ( i did not do the insane fender trimming)

Hello, I noticed you have an XJ. I have an XJ as well, would you perhaps like to go wheeling?

I threw a set of 31" BFG AT's on my non-lifted XJ (while I was waiting on the lift kit to arrive). I was running a set of Grand Cherokee Canyon wheels, which I believe have 4" backspacing.

Yes, you can drive it that way, but I'd never (EVER!) take it off road. You'll be rubbing the tires on everything until you get a lift. I got 3" under mine, and I've never had any rubbing issues since (other than on the lower control arms, which I fixed with some 1.25" spacers).

Why would you? LCOG. I'm going for 31's when these current tires run out. Might get 1" shackles for the rear and 1" spacer up front. But I hope not.

Mine would rub with 31's going over a speed bump with anyone in the rear seat. Not highly recommended...

I have a worn set of BFG AT's on mine. I have no lift and the rear leafs are straight as an arrow.

My buddy was getting rid of these tires with around 50% tread. I couldn't pass it up. After I put them on I was limited with the flex, but I could go other places thanks to the tread. Before these I had bald 225's. If I have two passengers in the back I do rub on speed bumps. It's to the point now that when it rubs it's no biggie. It just barely hits on the back bumper flaring. There have been times where I've done an off camber creek crossing and nearly popped the flare off. The front only rubs at full lock, so I don't turn as sharp. Swaybars are connected right now.

Patriot Blue Y2K XJ. Big plans, small wallet.
