2 Door v.s. 4 Door

I couldnt find a thread for this but im in the market for a cherokee and I found a 97 XJ (manual) that is two door and was wondering if there is an advantage or disadvantage with the 2 door as far as lifting. To me the shorter wheelbase would make it easier to flip but this is my first jeep so I really dont know

Its all about personal taste. Unless you're trying to turn it into a serious rock crawler, you're fine with a 2 door. The shorter wheelbase can pose problems when rockcrawling. You will even find the wrangler guys extending their wheelbase as they progress into more hardcore crawling. The suspension is the same on the four door and the two door as far as I know, but lets face it. Im WJ kinda guy.

The 2 door is a much cooler looking vehicle in my opinion.

The 2 door has a shorter wheel base? i allways though they were the same

they are the same except one has 2 longer doors and one has 4 shorter doors. interior dimensions and everything are exactly the same. no wheelbase difference whatsoever. if you have kids or plan to, get the 4 door. i know this from experience.

if you have kids, dogs, friends get a 4dr i have had both and for practicality i prefer the 4dr. i loved the look and feel of the 2dr though it was way more comfy to have your arm in the window the bigger doors sucked in tight parking spots though. with my 4dr i can swing my door open without worrying... the 2dr i always had to catch the bottom of the door with my foot as i was getting out 2drs look killer doorless though 2drs have cup holders in the back....if you can get anyone back there they come in handy

there are two types of XJ owners.

those who have a 2-door, and those who wish they had a 2-door

WTB: JK front seats, 35x12.50 TSL's or SSR's

you should say "those that have kids or friends, and those that don't." i had a 2 door and it sucked getting my kid or anyone else in and out of the back. the only way i'd have another 2 door is if i could keep my 4 door. i'd only want a 2 door so i could cut the back off it anyway.

I love my 2 door. There isnt much room in the back of any XJ. A few of my friends have 4 doors and the lifted ones are a pain to get out of, quite literally. Its really funny seeing your freinds trip over the seatbelt trying to get out of the back of my jeep though.

There are two types of XJ owners.

People with dogs, kids, family, etc; and 4-door owners.

Stock ones are a pain to get out of. I've only been in the back seat of my xj a handfull of times and everytime, I hit my head or get my leg stuck on something. The doors just dont open far enough. But with that said, I would mch rather have my 4 door for my sons sake.

Had a 96 4-door XJ - Looked too much like a "family car".

Then a 98 2-door XJ - Looked too disproportionate.

Solution? Got a 92 MJ. I don't need passenger room. And it's got plenty of cargo space.
