New Jeep Owner - my '97 TJ

Edit: Obviously, a 1997 TJ!! Ignore the title....

Hi gang,

My wife and I were looking for a 3rd, play vehicle to tow behind our motorhome, and as a temp backup vehicle for our family. We've been eyeballing a Jeep for some Colorado open air fun, and stumbled into what I would classify as an impulse buy this weekend.

My wife made me buy it. I was hesitant.

1997 TJ
80,000 original miles
2.5l, 5 speed manual
Seemed mostly rust free
16" Rubicon wheels
Half doors with slider uppers
Rinolined inside
Speakerbar
Hardtop
Straight, mostly dent free, paint is decent shape for it's age, interior is in really good shape.
New clutch
New brakes

We paid $4500, which looked to be average book value (KBB).

Known problems: Exhaust leak where the manifold meets the front exhaust pipe. And, some grinding from the rear while driving. (I will need to dig in to diagnose but my initial thought is bearings.)

I don't mind tinkering with vehicles too much when I don't have to depend on them to get to work, so I'll slowly start to clean this thing up.

On tap for the next few weeks:

1) Address the grinding from the rear
2) Address the exhaust leak
3) Krylon the gray trim to satin black
4) Bedline the front and rear bumper

Looking forward to digging in and participating on this site!

What do you guys think I can get for the 4 Rubicon 16" wheels? (I only have 4).

I (think?) I'd much rather run some black steel rims like Cragar soft 8's and run 15" tires.

Think I could get enough for the Rubi's to cover some $60/each steelies?

If you are patient you will find someone, but don't expect huge demand. 16s are not a good size for wrangler and there is a flood of JK take-offs at the 17" size.

@duck911 where are you located and how much tread is left on the tires? I'd love to pick up some Rubi rims with at least half decent tread.
