led light bar

My son bought a 50" LED light off of Ebay and we mounted it to a light bar, Welded some mounting plates to the light bar.
And now driving down the road it whistles.

anyone have a similar issue?

It is on a 99TJ

This is a common issue. Try adjusting the angle of the lightbar. I have 4 individual lights on a light bar up top. They whistled pretty loud at first. I adjusted them slightly down and it became much quiter.

I was reading one of these last week somewhere. They added some adhesive backed trim and it cured it. I'll look around but I believe the thread was in a section that deals with exterior or trail lighting

Like frenchy206 mentioned they all pretty much make that noise at speed. Most people add weather stripping in between a few channels to stop the noise. There are a couple of threads on this matter floating around. I can’t recall the names but perhaps a search will bring them up or better yet someone will chime in that has done the fix.

I just used some rubber heater hose. Cut it into strips and put it in between the fins. So yes, weatherstripping works. Whistling like so?

As much as a common issue that this seems to be you’d think that light bar manufactures would have started to address this problem so we wouldn’t have to modify the bars to quiet them down.

Well, when you are are only paying 200 bucks for a 50in light bar you can only ask for so much.

Mine (Baja Designs 51-inch OnX) was over $1500.00 and comparable Rigid Industries and a couple of other manufacturers are in that ballpark too. So for those prices it doesn’t seem too unreasonable to me that they address the problem.

Placing obstructions that alter the flow of air over the Jeep (think wind tunnel) will almost always result in some type of noise. It's a Jeep after all, I'd be more concerned if it didn't make noise.

Passengers always seem to ask “what’s that noise” when going down the freeway for the first time in my Jeep and I’m sure it happens to others too. Yes Jeeps do tend to be on the noisy side but why add to it “just because”.

My hearing is very bad due to guns and it just so happens that the noise/tone that the light bar makes is nonexistent to me. The only good part of that is, is that I hear absolutely nothing from the bar.
