Undecided and need advice....

I'm looking to get into the Jeep game. Right now I'm looking at a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with 250,000, miles on it. Seller says engine has been rebuilt but does not have a list of items replaced. Body and interior are in good condition. The other vehicle is a 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4 with the 4.7 with 117000 miles on it. Body and interior are in good condition. Both are the same price, 4500. Both seem to drive well with no issues on the test drives. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

2001 4.0 equipped XJs commonly have issues with cracked heads. They also come with the less desirable low pinion Dana 30 front axle.

If you want an XJ, 1997 to 1999 are the most desirable years.

Can’t help with the Commander. I only use Jeeps for off-roading purposes and don’t know anything about that model.

Doesn't seem to be an apples/apples comparison.

The XJ is 6 years older, but more importantly, a carry over from the 80s. Plus has twice the miles.

The Commandor is at least a couple generations newer, half the mileage, etc.

I am multi-talented, I can talk and piss you off at the same time.

I'm just not too familiar with 4.7 in the Commander. Or general reliability of the Commander. There seems to be a ton of info on the 4.0 and Cherokee. I think I like the Commander, just not sure what I would be getting myself into.

Well...I ended up going with a 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited with the HEMI. Red with khaki leather. 149000 miles but I have an almost complete service history. Runs and drives great.
