Suggestions on first Jeep?

I was thinking about getting a Jeep for my next vehicle I want to be able to use it as a daily driver, but have weekend warrior capabilities. I'm thinking about the $15,000 range, adding mods with every paycheck. I was wondering what year would be suggested and why. Also mod suggestions? I've never had a Jeep and have always wanted one. Thanks!

Edit: I was looking at either a TJ or a JK. I will be purchasing an automatic. I enjoy how Tjs look more. I have concerns with all the problems I hear about Tjs rusting. I've never really worked on cars before. I like Jks because they're a bit newer and I hear they're easier to make off road ready, Thanks.

04-06 lj

I have had many Jeeps over the last 45 years...Cj5,CJ7, Cherokee, XJ, YJ and my 06 Unlimited LJ. This is the 2 door Uunlimited made only in 04-06 Some There is a demand for them...I am constantly asked by strangers if I would sell them mine ;-) The LJ is stock (except tires and shocks ungraded) and is my favorite of them all, but our new JL is looking pretty good...we will have to seen about that in 10 years! ;-) For $15K you should be able to get a newer one, but I never really have taken to the JKs. They are bigger than I want...my LJ has about a foot more length that really comes in handy...especially for fishing rods, etc..There is a lot of info on this Forum, but remember that some is bias toward what the member owns ;-)

Don't go back anything less that 5 years from the current model year.

Suggestions on first Jeep?

Buy a low mileage TJ (except 2000-01 and 05-06 auto's) and avoid JKs before 2013.

Unless you have a HUGE pay check that probably isn't a good plan. There are some inexpensive things you may want to do but when people say mods it usually involves lifts and tires, as simple as that sounds there can be more to it. Don't just through money at your Jeep without a plan.

For 15K you may find a Jeep the way you think you want it modified but learn what to look for before you buy.

Learn about the various Wranglers, CJs, YJs, TJs and JKs. All these wranglers can be used as a daily driver and weekend warrior. Older ones may require more work, newer ones more money. I am assuming you decided you want a wrangler because you are posting in the wrangler discussion group.

My suggesting is read allot before you purchase, ask questions.

Get the newest model year you can afford. You say that you're going to use as a DD, then a JKU is the most comfortable.

Current: 2017 JK Unlimited Rubicon

Gone - 1998 TJ Sport, 2000 TJ Sport, 1987 YJ, 1997 TJ SE, 1998 XJ Sport
